Aristolochia watsonii: Desert Pipevine, Indian Root.
A trailing or climbing perennial vine growing to 3' long. Triangular or Y-shaped narrow leaves start green but turn purple when stressed by drought.
Leaves and stems are poisonous. Accepts full sun to full shade. The green-and-dark-brown patterned openings on the two funnel-shaped flowers seen
above are 3/4 inch long. Photo taken mid-August.
Desert Pipevine is a host plant for the caterpillar of the Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly.
