Phemeranthus aurantiacus: Orange Flameflower.
Perennial herb to 12" tall. Blooms August and September.
Flower opens early afternoon, closes late afternoon.
Petals are dark orange, looking like an orange-red flame when furled.
Leaves are leathery, with a distinct groove on top running entire length.

Formerly classified as Talinum aurantiacum.
